This year ACAW acclaimed annual art forum, FIELD MEETING, premier\u2019s offsite for the first time in Asia, hosted at ACAW Consortium Partner, Alserkal Avenue in Dubai\u00a0\u2014 the MENASA region\u2019s foremost cultural destination and arts organization. FIELD MEETING Take 6: Thinking Collections<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0will stage\u00a0a dynamic string of pop-up exhibitions, performances, lecture-performances and discussions\u00a0by noted\u00a0multidisciplinary artists, thinkers and creative individuals from all regions of Asia (with a focus on East Asia) in the context of a large regional event, the Quoz Arts Festival.<\/p>\n

Ahmady\u2019s conceptual framework for FIELD MEETING Take 6 investigates the rightful place of an artist in relationship to one of the most prominently used terms in the art-world today: \u201ccollection\u201d. By taking on the task of decategorizing the word \u201ccollection<\/strong>\u201d from the gripping talons of the ever-burgeoning global art market, the program aims to reveal and reclaim the artist as the first collector<\/strong>. To collect means to gather and accumulate something significant, whether tangible or not. In this light, artists gather everything, be they specific aspects of reality, fiction, or other diverse subject matter. They do this by the sheer nature of their activities as artists; the gathering and treatment of daily experiences, ideas, feelings, intuition, education, training, research, history, stories, etc. Artists accumulate such content by absorbing abstract, physical and conceptual energies within their consciousness to eventually transform them into a given form. In other words, artists create bodies or containers for the collection of their own ideas, insights, and mechanisms that become identified as art objects in the world.<\/p>\n

ST Luk presents a film centering on the vivid colors, undulating floor, irregular lines, and spherical rooms of the Reversible Destiny Lofts designed by Arakawa (Japanese-American) and Madeline Gins (American) in Mitaka, Japan. The film revolves the philosophy of the artist\/scientist\/revolutionary couple who believed that one\u2019s destiny could be reversed away from death through transformative housing. Directed by Nobu Yamaoka and scored by composer Keiichiro Shibuya, Children Who Won\u2019t Die proudly sings a celebration of life, highlighting the possibilities of a world no one could ever have imagined before.<\/p>\n

ST Luk\u2019s FIELD MEETING participation is supported by the Reversible Destiny Foundation (New York).<\/p>\n

ST Luk<\/strong> is the Project Manager at Reversible Destiny\u2014 a foundation founded in 2010 to further advance the legacy of the couple Shusaku Arakawa and Madeline Gins in arts, architecture, and writing. Their renowned seminal work was presented at the exhibition Arakawa\/Gins: Reversible Destiny at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1997. With a background in architecture, ST Luk worked closely with Madeline Gins to realize the couple\u2019s last built project during their lifetime entitled Biotopological Scale-Juggling Escalator shown in New York in 2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
