Laurel Parker Book gallery is thrilled to welcome you September 12 from 2pm to 6pm to the opening of Playground Studies, an exhibition curated by Vincent Romagny. The exhibition will take place from September 10 to October 24, 2021.<\/p>

The exhibition includes works from Arakawa, Pol Gallo, Ane Hjort Guttu, Palle Nielsen, Seith Price and Corin Sworn.<\/p>

L\u2019enfance fait un retour fort dans l\u2019art contemporain. On lui d\u00e9die saison (1), \u0153uvres et exposition (2). On invoque son \u00e9tymologie sans son image (3). Dans ces occurrences, nulle r\u00e9surgence du mythe fondateur de l\u2019art moderne, l\u2019Enfance de l\u2019art, selon lequel l\u2019enfant est imm\u00e9diatement facteur d\u2019art, puisqu\u2019il \u00ab voit tout en nouveaut\u00e9 \u00bb (Charles Baudelaire, \u00ab Le Peintre de la vie moderne \u00bb). Ni m\u00eame de sa contestation radicale \u00e0 la fin du XX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, avec son renversement et l\u2019adolescence, r\u00e9surgence de l\u2019enfance comprise comme r\u00e9gression. D\u2019autres formes dont on peine encore \u00e0 saisir le sens global, mais que l\u2019on peut comprendre par les difficult\u00e9s du temps pr\u00e9sent et l\u2019incerti- tude du futur que nous lui pr\u00e9parons. Il aura fallu quelques d\u00e9cennies pour que l\u2019image de l\u2019enfance r\u00e9apparaisse frontalement dans l\u2019art contemporain. Loin de l\u2019innocence et des promesses de maintien et renouvellement du monde, l\u2019enfant inspira longtemps nostalgie et na\u00efvet\u00e9, auxquelles l\u2019exigence \u00ab critique \u00bb de l\u2019art contemporain s\u2019accommodait bien peu. Il n\u2019en avait pas moins \u00e9t\u00e9 aveugle \u00e0 des \u0153uvres le mettant en sc\u00e8ne qui \u00e9taient en fait autant de \u00ab tableaux de chasse (4) \u00bb. Ces questions d\u00e9rangeantes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 vite tues, pour \u00eatre vite recouvertes d\u2019autres repr\u00e9sentations autrement plus satisfaisantes. N\u2019en sont-elles pas pour autant trompeuses ? Heureusement, l\u2019on se pose aussi la question de savoir comment et \u00e0 quelles conditions il est possible d\u2019accorder le statut de co-cr\u00e9ateur \u00e0 l\u2019enfant, loin de toute instrumentalisation (5).<\/p>

Peut-\u00eatre fallait-il aussi que s\u2019\u00e9puise l\u2019id\u00e9e de jeu dans l\u2019art pour que, par le biais de la question de l\u2019aire de jeux, on ne revienne timidement \u00e0 l\u2019enfance. On voudrait, chez Laurel Parker Book, par le biais de quelques \u0153uvres vid\u00e9o pr\u00e9sentant des aires de jeux r\u00e9elles (Arakawa, Palle Nielsen, Seth Price) ou bien m\u00e9taphoriques (Pol Gallo, Ane Hjort Guttu, Corin Sworn), revenir sur quelques mythes de l\u2019enfance, que les aires de jeux manifestent pour autant qu\u2019elles lui donnent des sens toujours nouveaux, sur lesquels elles nous renseignent : l\u2019enfant comme origine perdue, l\u2019enfant comme vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9, l\u2019enfant comme mod\u00e8le politique, l\u2019enfance comme utopie. Peut-\u00eatre ce sera l\u00e0 une des vertus de playground studies \u00e0 venir, sortir d\u2019\u00ab un long processus d\u2019enfermement des enfants (6) \u00bb, et ce d\u2019abord dans nos repr\u00e9sentations. Sans doute n\u2019\u00e9voquera-t-on que quelques uns des mythes de l\u2019enfance dans l\u2019art. Au moins aura-t-on essay\u00e9 de les montrer comme tels. Nul doute qu\u2019il faille encore les mettre \u00e0 nu pour esp\u00e9rer imaginer un rapport non biais\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019enfance, \u00e0 \u00e9gale distance d\u2019un pass\u00e9 et d\u2019un futur fantasm\u00e9s qui instrumentalisent l\u2019enfance au pr\u00e9texte de l\u2019art et emp\u00eachent de lui reconna\u00eetre un statut politique.<\/p>
